Wine & Cheese

I have never had the taste for just any cheese and wine - but since E really like both I thought well we should do the wine and cheese presentation at Cradle mountain - since it is free for those who work on site.

We had 3 different cheese and 6 different wines to try as well as a information on the history of wine and the expected wine tastes.

The Wines went as following:

  1. Tamar Ridge Riesling
  2. Dalrymple Sauvignon Blanc
  3. Clemence Hill Pinot Noir
  4. Clarence House Merlot
  5. Tamar Ridge Botrytis Riesling
  6. Josef Chromy NV Sparkling
Cheese are as follows:
  1. Cape Wickham Double Drie
  2. Ashgrove Bush Pepper
  3. Roaring Forties Blue
Out of the different wines my favourite was the Tamar Ridge Botrytis Riesling, It was just so easy to drink - very sweet but no after taste like other wine generally leave behind it was delicious.

My Favourite Cheese was the Ashgrove Bush Pepper and that is surprising since I don't really like cheese. I did try the blue cheese - and I HATE smelly cheese but since I am in the mood of trying new things I tried it and didn't mind it but I found it very salty and maybe to salty. Really different from other blue cheeses.

I am glad I tried different things and found I actually like it.

Hassie Adventure - Week 31

Well one week down and 2 left before we leave the mountain.

I have started to pack Van Gogh but finding it very frustrating to pack while I can't do everything at once. Since we have to still be here for 2 weeks it makes it hard to organise everything how I like.

Packing up made me think about how in the beginning I wasn't going to make friends. I thought it would be hard to cope with everyone here on the mountain, but I found you need 'friends' here or life on the mountain will drive you insane.

I quite enjoyed making friends and hope to catch up with everyone I class as good friends.

The Original Coles Store

As our time comes to an end here at Cradle Mountain - E and I have realised that there is still so much we had planned to do before we leave. So today when we left the mountain for our weekly shopping trip we stopped at the Original Coles Store in a small town called Wilmont.

As you can see it has escaped development over the years and much of the building and fittings have been preserved. When you called into the store you are instantly are greeted by a friendly smile. Its small and you can just image how it was in the 1900.

This little store was operated by the Coles family from 1910-1921, this was Australia's first permanent Coles retail store, and forebear of Australian retailing giant, the Coles-Myer chain.

Im glad to say I have been at the first ever Coles store, its something I can now tick off the list.

Hassie Adventure - Week 30

Well its official E and I will be leaving the mountain in 3 weeks, 1 of those weeks we are going to be in Sydney. We have been wanting to leaving for a while but wanted to say a bit more money before we move on.

Even though that hasn't happened since we decided to move on but our happiness is more important that money.

We have applied for a new job and E basically has got it but I'm still worried of course that thing might not work out. E things this is silly because he can easily get a job anywhere - which is very true but its hard to let go of what you know and rely on.

At the moment we don't have to worry about buying food and cooking nor do we have to drive to work. Its really helping us save up quite a bit of money, so if we can't be in a similar position it will take some adjusting on my part.

Thinking back for when we were in Albany and working as a carer there - it was a little awkward to get ready for work in the morning in a van and driving my whole home to work with E in the back snoring.

I'd like not to have that again, I'd rather work and save up and travel and then work in a similar environment.

We will see what happens in the weeks to come. Very exited to go to Sydney to meet my all grown up Niece Ivy and my sister and brother-inlaw.

Weindorfers Forrest Walk

While visiting the Waldheim Chalet we took a quick walk through a forest of King Billy pines, celery-top pines and myrtles. The 20 minutes at a gentle pace was very different than the other walks we have done around Cradle Mountain.

I found this walk very beautiful and more green, its something photos really can't express.

Waldheim Chalet

After a lazy day and a lovely sleep in E and I didn't want to do too much we decided to just visit the Waldheim Chalet. Nestled among the myrtles and King Billy pines in the Cradle valley. The Chalet takes you back to the time when the Weindorfers first offered there renowned hospitality to their guests.

While inside the Chalet we got told about how Gustav and Kate Weindorfer having fallen in love with what is now Cradle Mountain and then build this rustic home and guest chalet in 1912. The Chalet was named Waldheim meaning Forest home.

The Waldheim Chalet continued to be used for accommodation until 1974. After a fire, it was beyond repair and demolished. The replica and rebuilt in 1976 using traditional bush carpentry techniques, is made from shingles split form King Billy Pine.

Walking around inside this chalet takes you back and makes you realise just how much things have changed.

Guide Falls

After a quick trip down to Burnie we saw a turn off to Guide Falls. It wasn't planned but we went anyway. It was a lovely day and since we have nothing else to do why not.

It is a beautiful area and you can get right up close to the water falls. E was there with his Hassehoff and took very long to take photos as he always does.

Thats how E and I differ, I like to snap snap and snap where he like to plan the shot and only take a few. I understand that his photos are better when planned but I have great ones too when I go thru all my photos at home. But what do I know.

Hassie Adventure - Week 29

This week I guess you would say we are on the fence about leaving or whether or not we need to stick it out.

As you know what our plans are from the previous weekly blog, but isn't our happiness more important??

We're not happy working - we have been here what? 6 months. It doesn't feel like we are traveling anymore. It feels like we moved away from home. I want to be in Van Gogh and having to move everything off the bed to go to sleep and move everything back for when we want to leave...

Think it will just take one things and we will be gone... In the mean time we are sticking it out.
