Devils @ Cradle

What an exiting day, since we were in Tasmanian I made E take me too a Tasmanian Devil Sanctuary where I can see an actual Tas.
I knew they we're real but I have been told they are all extinct -  they aren't but is very close. There for all these Devil Sanctuary like Devils @ Cradle is so important in research and ensuing they keep the number up.

We got there and joined a tour where you get told about the Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD) that is killing off these fluffy cute things.

DFTD is a cancerous sarcoma that affects 30-50% of wild Tasmanian devils. The Disease is characterised by the development of ulcerated tumours around the jaws and head of the animal. The disease is fatal and an individual usually starves to death with in 2-5 months of the first signs of the tumour. The spread of DFTD is unusual as each tumour that has been investigated is a clone. That means that it has the identical misreading of the original host's genetic cod, with the same number of damaged chromosomes. The fact that each tumour is identical suggests that the disease is not environmentally stimulated but the chemical or carcinogens but is directly transmissible between two individuals.

*From the Devils @ Cradle website*

For more information on DFTD please Click here and find out what is causing these Devils to disappear.

On a slight happier note - for mothers that I adopted a devil for my mum. His name is Ralfie and he is only 1 years old.
I recommend you adopt one for yourself - its only $50 for 12 months and you get a 6monthly newsletter update on your Devil. Just Click here and follow the instructions or see any Devils Sanctuary near you.

First Snow Day

Its SNOWING!!

It's such a BIG YaY day. I rand back to the room and almost jumped on E, waking him up just to come and see the snow!!

I have seen snow before as a little chile but E has never seen snow! Although I acted like it was my first time too. I was even better to enjoy it with E. YaY!!
The only thing that was annoying is that E and I both had to work - so now building snowmen and having a snow ball fight just yet.

Having to work outside in the snow is a different challenge over all, Wasn't really cold but wet! It was raining and then would snow - I did get to catch some snow flake on my tough which is always the best.

By the time I finished work the snow has just about disappeared, and nothing left to play with and E only finish at 9pm so no luck for him.

Hoping to have another snow day very soon.

Hassie Adventure - Week 11

Well almost 3 months and it really has gone quick. I am exited for our time here in Tasmania, with the snow that came in this week I can just see the endless fun in the snow.

A fair bit done this week.

We went to devils at Cradle where I got to touch one... so cute I just want to take one home. I finally got my hair trimmed and is still love with the length of it. I got to send some time with Anne on a Adventure day while E was still working - which was supper fun.

Besides that I made people aware of Lymes Disease up here on the mountain.

I will be posting separate blog on each of these events as there is just so much I want to say that this would end up as a book. So keep you eyes peeled.

What I do want to mention is that I have started a new hobby or improved my old one.
I enjoy drawing and always have - you might have seen some pictures I have posted on previous blogs. I finally got myself some water colour paint which I am supper exited to try and explore the new possibilities that I enjoy. As soon as I have something to show I will post something for you to put your eyes on.

Cradle Mountain - Dove Lake

E and I didn't feel like traveling to far on our day off so we spent it in the national park. It as you can see, was a lovely day. The sun is out and clear skies, don't let it fool you though because it was still very cold.

I am stuck with the flu/cold at the moment and its not pleasant. Felt like any kind of fluid was sand paper and my nose a runny tape. Absolutely poo. I hate being sick and yet I am always the one who gets sick first. I am glad thought it is early in the stay because I know it will be a super cold winter.

Looking forward to the snow... Yay

Baby Sitting

Besides sitting around reading my book and enjoying the fire I got to do some colouring. His name was Max and he slept 2 of the 3 hours I looked after him. When he did wake up, I realised how busy 3 year old are. Gosh I knew there busy bodies but he kept me going. Changing rules of games and making new ones up as we went, I could not keep track.

I did enjoy myself and I was worried before I arrived that I might needed a Merry Poppins bag full of thing to keep him busy, but colouring in worked just fine - for him and me.

Would be interested to some more baby sitting - might even change my career if they are all this easy.

Hassie Adventure - Week 10

Gosh each week goes past so fast, this is week 3 on the mountain. Well new challenge that came upon us this week is the COMMON COLD!

I am the worst person to be sick - E can Vow for that. I know I know... 'but Chante' you are a nurse". Well I reckon  that is why I am such a baby with being sick. I am always the one who gets sick!! I HATE IT...

Gosh it started with a sore throat, then a runny nose and this crappy dry cough that does help even coughing. Why is there something like this in the world!! Just annoying - That what I say!!

Well I am glad I get it now - then whey it does start to snow I am not going to get sick AGAIN and I can enjoy the cold, wet weather.
Speaking of snow - It is already snowing on the mountain which is supper exited!! YAY!!

To Do list when It snows
  • Snow Angel
  • Snow ball fight
  • Yellow snow
  • Build a Snow Man or bunny
  • Eat Snow - not the yellow snow
YAY I can't wait. Any suggestions please share...

E and I did go into the National Park this weeks and wow - its is out of this world.

Will post some photos up soon...

SpotLight Tour

Although these photos are taken in the day - all of these wild life we did spot during our Spot light tour.
Its free for us living here so we thought we would take full advantage of everything here. We are very lucky thought working here we come across all of these animals these for I can take all these photos...

First photo - Wombat
Second photo - Wallaby
Third photo - Quill

My favourite is the Wombat, I just want to pick one up and cuddle it, take it home and pop it on my bed to look at. I know of course that is not a possibility but just look at that face!! naww

Im sure I will be posting many more photos of these cute things since I see them almost everyday.

Hassie Adventure - Week 9

Well I know last week was a post that almost makes me sound lazy to socialise and make friends or just talk to people.

Now I haven't tried making friends but through just casual chatting and working with people you get to know people and yes then they become friends. I haven't gone out of my way to make friends or to get to know people but it happened. Its interesting all I was doing was being polite make casual conversation and TADA friends. Now I don't think people can say they can't make any friends, cause all it takes is casual conversation.

Well besides making friends or at least one, E and I have done a bit of exploring. Working at the lodge we get to do all the activities for free, the actual prices ranging from $15 to $85.

On this past weeks Activity Guide we did the Wildlife Night Spot light tour. Which I will do a post next. We have been trying to get into the Dove Lake Canoe tour but the weather has not been permitting and there needs to be a few more people than just 2 going. I am hoping to get to do it soon as winter is coming to an end and then it will stop.

We went to town on our day off and got some supplies. Which consists of
  • Anzac biscuits
  • Monte Carlo biscuits
  • Shortbread Cream biscuits
  • Coke
  • Oats
  • LCM bars
  • Grape Fanta
Then I got some toiletries, the usual shampoo and conditioner, soap etc.

I realise what we got isn't at all good supplies but I would like to remind you that living here we get food included in our work package so we don't have to worry about cooking food or buying food. Works our well - we get to save heaps!!

We will see what kind of adventures we can do next weeks and get to share with you.
